The aim of this project was to demonstrate the operation of a 10 level automated parking house with 5 elevators and over 1200 parking places, and use the simulation to discover and eliminate the bottlenecks of the system, and thus get the statistical reports of an optimally operating parking house.

The simulation was developed in Siemens Plant Simulation software, which software gives us the capabilities to create both 2 and 3 dimensional simulation. We used this opportunity and created a statistically punctual 2 dimensional model for optimization, and a 3 dimensional model –mostly- for marketing purposes. We developed an algorithm for controlling the different car-handling devices, and with running tests with different input parameters (speeds, acceleration, delays) we focused on achieving better throughput (number of clients served per hour) of the systems. By the end of the project we identified the speed of the elevators as a bottleneck, and by slightly modifying it, we achieved a significant improvement in throughput rate.
